Ode to the Disappearing Trees

Our neighborhood in Takoma Park, Maryland sadly lost many trees in the last few years due to climate change. A prolonged period of wetter than normal conditions drowned the tiny rootlets of our majestic red oaks, allowing insects to attack and ultimately kill the weakened trees. I LOVE trees – their beauty and shade - and their presence is one thing that makes our neighborhood so wonderful.  This series is my response to this situation. In this series, I used hickory nut shells and acorns as well as stunning colored shale that is reminiscent of the warm colors of Autumn leaves.
